I know it has been a long time since I last dropped you a line. Life has been really good. I guess I have been distracted by having no issues, no drama, and no problems.

Well, this morning it dawned on me that I my birthday is soon approaching. All of a sudden it dawned on me: I AM FORTY YEARS OLD!!! Actually, I am almost done being 40.

I could deal with 40, but 41 feels like something entirely differently. Things are starting to change. Now I still don’t look my age, but I must be looking or acting more mature given some of the comments I’m now getting.
Let me set the scene for you. I was walking home from work the other day. I was wearing skirt suit. There was nothing special about suit or heels I was wearing. Then it happened: within seconds I received a compliment of sorts followed immediately by what an insult.

Rude Boy 1: “Dude, did you see that!” (The “that” being referred to me was me!)
Rude Boy 2: “ Yo! I saw all-a-dat (Yes, that is exactly the way he said it)! And she’s even a grown woman too!”

Now, why did they have to qualify things by bringing me being a ‘grown woman’ into it? I’m not saying that my self-esteem hinges on the rude comments of boys who should be doing something with themselves other than standing on the street corner. So, I strutted on toward home anxious to get home where I could take off my heels and ice my knee…

Also the types of conversations I’ve been having with friends have also changed.

Friend: “Girl, before I left the house I made sure to lay my night clothes out on the bed.”
Me: “You too? I thought I was the only person to do that.”
Friend: “Unh-uh. I don’t leave home without getting ready for bedtime.”
Me: “Amen. So you ready to hit the dance floor?”
Friend: “Yep. I took an Advil before leaving the house. Let’s go.”

I’m not saying that I’m turning into one of the Golden Girls yet, (if you don’t know who the Golden Girls were, you know what I’m going to say next: you’re too young to be reading this!). What I am saying is that I realize things are changing. I guess a new journey is about to begin …

You know what comes next:

G’night & Laters,
